That would be because it was decided not to be needed, and quick "comment out" is to change the spelling, but kept around in case it is later decided if it is needed.
It should obviously be cleaned up at that. (ie, deleted). Not sure the Masters need to know about the embarrassing OSX code here though :) Feel free to use github's ability to post a comment next to the source line too, and I hang out in Freenode's #mac-zfs if you use irc.
