Yes, it is a bit confusing, and we certainly had bugs in sa.c in the past..
Hard to know who to follow :)

Our sa.c was a copy of IllumOS's, with only minor changes to remove
compiler warnings, and fix a UIO API call.

We switched over to ZOL's sa.c about 2 weeks back now, and have not yet
seen this problem since then.

It would seem ZOL have fixed something for us. So far, as far as I know,
only ZOL and O3X uses SA in "dynamic fashion". ie, ZOL with xattr=sa, and
O3X adding "ADDEDTIME", adding attributes as needed to already existing
entries.

We will monitor the situation and move onto something else.
