Yes it is something I've thought about. The problem is, though, that when you stream directly from the tuner you miss the ability to do TimeShifting which is IMO much more important than channel switching is. Again, most of the users that found out the possibilities a good PVR gives them almost stopped watching LiveTV. Why? Commercials, having to remember when something's on and sit by the tv and wait for it... And probably some more reasons could be thought of. Still, slow channel switching may turn users down before they even see what PVRs give them. I think it could be possible to copy the stream taken from the tuner and record it while simultaneously streaming live to the user. Then, if a user presses pause or rewind or whatever, the streaming would switch from live stream to the recording. Again, when fast forwarded till the end of the recording, the live stream could be switched back on. I even think a STB I have laying around does exactly that. I don't think it should be a priority, though... It's a lot of work to please not a whole lot of users. -- Michał Sawicz <[email protected]>
