I've gone public with some very exciting drafts for your input and
collaboration:

I am very interested in the civic-inspired programmers input from Sunlight,
mySociety, the Open Planning Project, and other developer-oriented circles
particularly as it relates to the value of open and collaborative work on
specifications with the goal of rapidly diffusion of online civic engagement
features across lots of platforms/sites. I want to see the best "local"
e-democracy aps become something a government, non-profit, or media site can
easily turn-on within their established content management environment
instead of seeing more incompatible silo tools remain inaccessible to most
local people.
Having been deeply involved with a few UK Local e-Democracy National Project
pilot, it seemed that we missed an opportunity to have tools spread beyond
one install to lots of content platforms by not have an open specification
process that then could have led to competition among providers (hopefully)
pitching how they add X feature/tool to an existing open source content
management system with legs.
Over the next ten days, I'll be in intense grant writing mode based on
initial foundation interest. On Sep. 10, I'll be in Washington DC and plan
to gather those interested in offering input and advice on Participation 3.0
in the late afternoon/evening. If you would like to join us, drop a note
with "P3 DC MySoc" in the subject line to: [email protected] or

P.S. While our funding lead is specifically interested in the U.S., since we
have communities based the UK in the E-Democracy.org network, a UK or
European funded contribution could easily add a community in the UK for
piloting various tools and features. The technology is the relatively cheap
part compared to effective and inclusive outreach to actually gain traction
with use.
