Why would it be rare? You're misreading - I'm not saying a postcode
lookup might produce the wrong result, which yes will be quite rare; I'm
saying a *point* lookup could produce a wrong result. There are zillions
more points than postcodes, and I have no information about how many
points near authority boundaries have their closest postcode on the
other side.
Back in the day at upmystreet, we found that the number of complaints
(maybe 5/month) of "hey, you've got the wrong council for my
postcode" that were user error greatly exceeded those that were
actually wrong, and we were doing *millions* of matches per month.
Yes, indeed, but again, that's not the question that was being asked. :)
