We should also request release of the Inter-Departmental Business
Register (IDBR). It's government's comprehensive list of UK businesses
for statistical purposes. IDBR contains businesses identified from VAT
and PAYE records, in addition to those that are Companies House
registered.

Companies House doesn't hold parent/subsidiary information in a
structured format. IDBR contains groupings of legal units under common
ownership. This could be a way to get structured parent/subsidiary
information.

btw, another simplest thing done with CH data was built by five of us
at Rewired State last year: http://companiesopen.org/
