IIRC, Peter Murray-Rust (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Murray-Rust) got in a fair amount of trouble for doing a similar thing (downloading lots of journal articles for data mining) but he's also a professor, which possibly helped lessen the consequences.
I can't find any articles about the actual incident...
