Why do we need the databases directory, is it expected to have in the near
future another storage type?
Storage was intended to offer this possibility. Whether an implementation will follow reamins to be seen, ofcourse, but it is possible.
Also, the Query framework is not merely based on SQL. The structure allows for additonal implementations that are not based on databases.
