Voting as contractual obligation?

I fail to see how this "commitment" is going to reduce risc. If even the 
original committer might leave to pursue other interests how are others going 
to keep up?

Better vote based on adding "The Right Thing" architecture-wise and trust that 
the developer community at any time now or in the future will "Do The Right 
Thing" with it when the need or opportunity arises.

It seems nobody has an opinion on this?
Are we really going to make code into an 'community-maintained 
applications' and then just hope that people are willing to maintain it?
Or do we plan to ask some kind of commitment of those who vote in favor 
of it?
