Further investigation showed that the databaseserver settings were not what to 
be expected. Testing locally showed the code worked. I have to get our 
administrators to set the right parameters. Though task around Christmas ;)

I'm not sure who or what is doing this escaping. I'm pretty sure it is
no mmbase code doing this. It suppose it is a job of the driver.
Perhaps you simply have to upgrade it?
