That was my point - the only difference between a message that works and
one that fails is the For header is not set in the one that fails. Note
that the same problem exists when my email server receives a Mailer
generated email, long before it sends it to my provider.

There is obviously some difference between Mailer's 'standard SMTP' and
that of the JavaMail SDK and all my email clients 'standard SMTP' as the
latter work 'out of the box' in my environment but the former does not.

SMTPSEND is the smtp client that the email server on my local lan uses to
talk to the smtp server on my provider.

Actually I said the 'main reason for looking at Swift' - as opposed to any
other, preferably open source JMS implementation. I had hoped that Mailer
would be a tried and tested solution for exactly the situation I am in now
- some weird problems with a lesser known email server - in order to save
myself the time and effort of writing a Mail router, but from the standard
response of 'it works here, so it must be your problem' it looks like I
will have to do it anyway and in that case using a true open source product
may be a better option.
