+1 Rob since you are in contact with the vrpo maybe you can look what more builder/stuff is not used? (polls/remote counters/ remote services?).
Would it be a good idea to organize a "butchering week-end" where all "main parties" are there to hack way code? Pierre has done lots of "preparing" work.
