I think you need both. But tools can't replace docs and docs can't 
replace tools.

I think you can use 1 installation manual, with a chapter describing 
possible differences. Or point to the documentation from these 
applicationservers.

Jep, maybe even less new features for a period of time, but focus on 
better admin/edit/etc interfaces and stability.
