Hi developers,
who on earth is using the org.mmbase.service, and org.mmbase.remote
packages ?
We're not using these packages.
We at the vpro were using that code, but due to the many problems it was
causing we changed to altenative code.
The ideas behind the code in these packages are rather elegant, but the
code is not really useful anymore. Things should be rewritten to be more
stable, and MMBase is offering now beter ways to implement remote stuff.
Removing the code will make MMBase smaller, and makes us possible to
focus on other stuff.
The issue i wanna know is, are there people that are using these packages ?
And are there people against removing them ?
Do we think this code should be moved to the play yard, or just removed ?
I like the idea behind these services, so let's move them to the
'speeltuin' and we can allways decide to try and make these services
more fail-safe of start all over again to create services like these....
Information about remote builders can be found at:
http://www.mmbase.org/projects/remote/mmbaseremoteservices.html
b.t.w. the same issue can be applied to the vwms: EncodeHandler.java,
and EncodeCop.java
Can also be moved to the 'speeltuin'.
