I agree the original method is confusing and should be made deprecated and eventually be removed/replaced (even as a private method it is confusing).
The name "isExtensionOf" is fine, provided we agree that a builder is never an extension of itself. Also, the argument should be of type MMObjectBuilder, not a String.
