I completely agree, that this 'dir' field is a rather silly feature. I'd propose to
hide it as much
as possible ('bidirectonial' should be the default everywhere, and not explicitely be
specified,
because the mere notice of 'dir' brings people to ideas which are not in harmony with
actual
implementation).
