I think it is a good idea to ship MMBase-1.7 without xerces (and xalan) then. Do we need a vote for that? If we want to maintain the size of the downloads, I'd propose we ship it in stead with drivers for the most common open source database which were tested (read: the right drivers for postgresql and mysql).
