This is the reason I abstained from voting, because the traffic on the
list became too dispersed to get clear what exactly I would be voting
on. It is in itself not a bad thing that a lot of discussion came up;
in such I case I think the vote should be cancelled, the discussion
can take place and then (a possibly modified) hack request can be done
again.

So, please recast the vote, and I will probably +1 it for HEAD and
also 1.7 if it is fully backwards compatible.
