Each time one of the layers below your development are changed, you should perform an upgrade of your modifications to apply with the changes in the base.

If you make an authorized installation of an SP the old *.aod files will be copied to the \old directory. These files is used in the process of generating an upgrade project which will containt the application objects in you layer, which have changed in one of the layers below.

If you make an manual upgrade of any of the aod-files, you can make the copy to \old yourself before making the upgrade.

You should note that the upgrade project only catches if you have modified objects, which is changed. It will not discover changes in objects your are using (eg. calling a method). If you have some critical areas in the category, you can try to compare the new and old version of the object in the layer in question.
