Yes
you do have to have SQL Server Analysis services with the latest service
pack. If you not have the service pack it will not work correctly.
You can generate cubes though changing certain data in the cube may cause you to
have to retransfer your cube (our cube design is fairly complex, so that may be
why that occurs). Once you get the transfered and processed you can export the
cube to excel through the pivot table control without any major problems.
Depending on the version of Excel the summation may not be correct and your
filters do not pass through correctly so you will probably have to refilter your
cube once it is in Excel.
