When an account is found via a posting profile somewhere in the system - e.g. when you invoice update a sales order, you can afterwards look at the field posting and analyze why you actually hit this and that account with a transaction.

E.g. the posting type customer balance, will tell you, that this transactions is made due to the fact, that one of your customer owes you some money and the account in general ledger was found via Account Receivable/Setup/Posting Profile/field summary account.
