Hi Matt,
did you try to set up a cluster environment? In this case it should be possible to shut down one AOT without a problem. New users are automaticaly redirected to the other aos in the same cluster.

Hi all,
We are doing a reshuffle of our hardware resources, and part of that
involves moving all our AOSs (temporarily) onto one machine. Currently all
our users connect using the web deployment activeX, with axc files in the
background determining the details. Funny thing is, once I shut down the AOS
manager on our second machine and started the AOS's up on our first machine,
they could no longer connect! It turns out that when multiple hosts are
defined ('Client tab->Settings->Axapta Object Server Hostnames' on the
config tool), all specified servers MUST be available and the service MUST
be running on all of them. This makes this feature pretty useless in a
failover case! Is there any way around this?
