Cenk, I have never used straight COM, so I can't comment there, but I found
COM+ useful as it gives me a bit of feedback and control through the
components control panel.
As for Server vs Client, I'm afraid you'll have to clarify that a bit- do
you mean should you run the ABC on the server or the client machine? In that
case it doesn't really matter-the configuration you connect with defines how
the ABC connects to axapta, and any connection that works for a client will
work fine for that.
Some caveats to look out for:
-When debugging the ABC, it must be using the same configuration and user as
your currently logged in client. You cannont run Axapta with web deployment
for debugging purposes.
-The ABC caches objects just like a normal client, so when you make code
changes and want the ABC to be aware of them, it must be restarted
-The Start/Stop ABC controls on the Axapta configuration tool force the ABC
to connect with the local (Windows) user, so setting a user manually on the
component through the control panel is a waste of time.
-Initial startup of the component is a bit slow, but once it's up, if you
set up your component reuse correctly, you might never have to restart it.
-The ABC can ONLY connect to a single AOS in it's 'lifetime'. If you need to
connect to a different AOS/System, you will need to shut down and restart
the ABC.
