If you have a properly liscenced sql server, and it is your data, then it 
should be legal. Axapta should have no relevance to the question.
   
  The reason axapta provides the business connector is to open it's APIs - 
which is something you can't get going directly to the DB.
   
  (For instance, you'll notice the data in the database doesn't have the text 
string for the enums - instead it just has a number. If you need to send the 
string you end up with crazy long when conditions in your sql statement. All 
this would be a non-issue if you pulled the data thru a business connector).
