[development] High volume site, benchmarking

I am talking with a client about redoing a site in Drupal that gets millions of page views monthly. My concern is page generation time. I would need to assure my client that I con produce pages very fast. Here are a couple of questions: I don't think my question will be MySql vs. Postgre, but I would like some input on getting started in the world of benchmark testing.
