This is on D6, so, it's not Innodb. With Devel attributing less than one third 
of 1% of the time to MySql, I'm not even looking there.

If you are running under Windows, there is an issue with MySQL if you are using 
the InnoDB storage engine.  MySQL waits for confirmations from Windows that 
never come, so it takes a very long time for some queries to execute.  To get 
around this, add the following directive to your my.cnf file:

innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit = 2

This might help to speed things up.
