The switch isn't being thrown until the 24th ;) I would highly recommend learning the CLI git interface in place of TortoiseGit. Once you know the basics, it's not that scary, and it's incredibly powerful. That said, it's your call. The Git Community Book at http://book.git-scm.com/index.html is a great resource, whether you use the command line or a GUI. It is command-line focused, but regardless of your chosen interface, it provides a very useful understanding of how Git works under the cover.
