Chrooted environment sounds difficult as the Fonera isn't x86. You should have
a look to debian embedded project.
I think Debian has a mips port (and most certainly more than just x86!),
so that might work. I haven't tried this yet, though.
If you're going to try this, take care to use the "mipsel" architecture
(little endian MIPS).
