Hi Paolo, > I've just disabled the public signal on my fonera 2.0n but I found that > it is trying anyway to reach updates.fon.com for reasons that I cannot > understand. As Alexandre noted, this is the "onlined" program that tests the connection to allow the Fonera to know if it's online or offline. This status is used in a few places: - To show the status to users trying to browse the web, using the "orange page". This page will be removed in 2.3.7.0, though. - To disable the public signal when the Fonera is offline - To make the power led blink (on 2.0n) or become orange (on 2.0g) when the Fonera is offline. - To disable application installation from the Fon server.
This list is from the top of my head, so there might be more uses I've missed just now. If you're using a 2.3.7.0 beta and have the public signal disabled, the first two points do not apply, leaving only the latter two (minor) points. If you feel strongly about stopping these connections, the easiest way to disable them is to disable onlined. I think the best way to do this is to run: root@Fonera:~# uci set services.onlined.boot=Online; uci commit services This should make sure that instead of starting onlined (using the StartOnlined script), the connection is marked as online unconditionally (using the Online) script. I haven't tested this, so feel free to complain if it doesn't work :-) I hope this solves your issue! Gr. Matthijs
