I have my opinion on the existence of a 4.9, but I'll keep it for the moment.

But I want to make sure we understand this:

*IF* we do a 4.9, it needs to be released *AFTER* 5.0. Reasons:

 - we need to know what the API in 5.0 will be so that any feature backports
retain full source-compatibility

 - we simply cannot detract from the 5.0 effort right now. All resources need
to be there, except for 4.8 maintenance.

Despite the last point, I can't tell you what to do or not to do. If you and
others wish to start doing this, by all means go ahead. Create a branch
somewhere and start working. It can't be in Gerrit though and it can't portray
itself as official until the Qt Project makes a decision, if it does.

Also note that it might decide not to make a 4.9 release and your work may
never see the light of day.
