Sorry I'm jumping in the conversation without much knowleadge of those
APIs, but I don't see why it would be necessary to backport anything
to Qt4. QtGui could have new features without having to backport them
as far as I understand it.
If it would be best to extend QtGui to have a better user experience,
then a proposal to extend it should be done IMHO.
