sRGB is special for a couple of reasons:
- Most/Many of the images published for web are in the sRGB color space.
- OpenGL has support for sRGB textures and frame buffers.

Given that progress has halted on this so far it might be good idea to reduce 
scope to something that can be completed cross-platform in a reasonable amount 
time.

There are arguments against as well, we don’t want to add API that would limit 
(future) support to sRGB only for example.
