That was an alternative I didn't post because I hadn't yet throught it through. Instead of QString privately inheriting from QStringView, both QString and QStringView would inherit from a QStringBase or QStringOps or whtever we call it, containing most of the common read-only code. If we inherit publicly, then we also save from having to have those annoying "using QStringView::indexOf;".
