Some people have reported system degradation which we have traced to an overactive syslog daemon. The activity is caused by logging a lot of SMB/Windows networking information on the external interface. I have updated e-smith-packetfilter to: Ignore SMB traffic Ignore RIP (routing) traffic There is also a new "Logging" property for the masq service: masq=service|.....Logging|(all|none|most) The default is none, so no packet logging is done of denied packets. To log all denied packets, /sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop masq Logging all This will return your system to the logging state of 4.1/4.1.1. To log all denied packets, except SMB and RIP /sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop masq Logging most NOTE: "most" is currently anything except "none" or "all" - THIS MAY CHANGE ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/contrib/GordonRowell/RPMS/noarch/\ e-smith-packetfilter-1.2.0-05.noarch.rpm ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/contrib/GordonRowell/SRPMS/\ e-smith-packetfilter-1.2.0-05.src.rpm Please report problems to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks, Gordon -- Gordon Rowell [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.e-smith.org (development) http://www.e-smith.com (corporate) Phone: +61 (0418) 467 366 Fax: +1 (613) 564 7739 e-smith, inc. 1500-150 Metcalfe St, Ottawa, ON K2P 1P1 Canada
