4.1b3 pptp problems

i can connect to the pptp server from a win98se box, but the vpn call is dropped by 
the e-smith server almost as soon as it connects (or so windoze says). has anyone 
successfully connected a win98se vpn to 4.1b3? is there a pptpd log file on the 
e-smith box which may shed light on 
this problem?
