I'm not sure whether I ever posted a response to this (it's been super
frantic here).

In answer to your questions, after much, much wrestling with RedHat's
kudzu and anaconda packages, and with strange bugs with the 3ware BIOS,
4.1beta3 (which will be out this week!) will boot and install on a system
with 3ware's ATA RAID controller cards (or at least on the 6200 which I
have tested on). And e-smith will support registered users using systems
so equipped.
