Brandon,

> 1) Why is the telnet setup for no access by default?

Because telnet is *really* nasty from a security point of view. Passwords
with telnet are transmitted **in the clear**. Unecrypted. Open to sniffing.
Bad. *Really* bad! ssh is really the solution you need. More info is at:

  http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/4.1/security.html

Granted, if you are using e-smith for a small network and you just want to
use telnet on your local network... well... I guess the chances of
someone sniffing your password depends upon how much you trust the
other people on your network! :-)

Even though you might be safe, I'd personally suggest installing ssh
(there are Windows and Mac implementations now - http://www.openssh.com/
for more info), if only to get used to using it.

I would *STRONGLY* recommend *AGAINST* using public telnet. There are
simply too many people out on the Internet who want to crack systems.

> 2) Is the fullname.lastname@domain alias included in this release?

Yes.
