Hi everyone,
OK, following the discussion "Server Monitoring" and adviced by Charlie, we have
started to work in providing some kind of server status page to an e-smith server with
RRDtools.
I have installed rrdtool-1.0.28-1.i386.rpm from ww.rpmfind.com directly on a
4.0.12-56 e-smith server. There were no failled dependencies or missing packages. I
guess it would be the same for 4.1. It seems to work right out of the box without any
error :)
We should decide what parameters to monitor. In the other thread I proposed the
following ones, but we are open to any suggestion:
HARDWARE (lm_sensors needed and hardware dependant)
* CPU Temperature
* CPU Fan Speed
* Chassis Fan Speed
GENERAL
* CPU Load
* Memory Usage
* Swap usage
* Hard Disk Usage
NETWORK
* Traffic In/Out Internal Interface
* Traffic In/Out External Interface
* External/Internal Traffic by Service (changes to the firewall rules
needed?)
What else? We would really appreciate some suggestion or addons to this list :)
Now, we are currently working on the scripts to get correctly all this info, and
the web page frontend. I know there are many options for both of them, but if somebody
has some experience with any of them, has a working backend script or whatever,
please, share it with us :).
We will start working with the backend, so the guys from e-smith have time to help
us with the front end once they get some rest from 4.1 release :)))) I guess the
backed it's less dependent of all the e-smith configurations files and it might be
easier for us. I'm going to try some of the contrib scripts given with MRTG.
