The apache and mod_ssl RPMs should be updated as a pair, in one command line. And you then don't need to remove the old apache RPM first. "--nodeps" should be avoided if at all possible. Those dependencies are there to help us. There's also no need to stop apache before doing the update. Just a "restart" at the end will do fine.
