Lotas,
This reminds me of the days I first used computer, which used a tape
(yes, normal audio tape!) as offline storage. (But I forgot the model.) I
was doing some Turtle programming (if you heard of it).
From my computer engineering days, theorectically this is perfectly Ok to
use a tape for such a purpose. But the drawbacks are: audio tapes are of
very low quality, does data stored may not last long! audio tapes are easily
affect by small amount of magnetic field, i.e. data corruption. Last but not
least, it is not a well accepted way to backup, i.e. your data will not be
easily transported to any other machine setup to read it back. Think about
how trouble it is to restore from a audio tape if you wiped out your
machine.
I believe the DAT media is cheap enough for use as a offline storage,
range from 2GB to 24GB which is very good for SMEs. For bigger sites, DLT
may be used.
Kai.
