Hi.

I'm having a problem with a VPN. Here's the issue...

I am trying to connect to a MS-VPN at work from a Win 98 box at home.
(There is an e-smith relationship here...) My win98 box connects to the
internet via a ESSG 4.1.2 box.

I've checked my /var/log/messages file and see the following entries.
Sep 13 07:54:16 e-smith kernel: ip_masq_pptp_tcp():
OUT_CALL_REQUEST 192.168.1.65 -> 209.5.96.236 CID=0 MCID=F3A7
Sep 13 07:54:16 e-smith kernel: ip_demasq_pptp_tcp():
OUT_CALL_REPLY 192.168.1.65 -> 209.5.96.236 CID=0 MCID=F3A7
Sep 13 07:54:46 e-smith kernel: ip_masq_pptp_tcp():
CALL_DISCONNECT_NOTIFY 192.168.1.65 -> 209.5.96.236 CID=0
MCID=F3A7

The connection status show it "Dialing" (not really.. it does go via the cable
modem) then is shows that it's validating the password for my user id. But
then I get the following error.

Error 650
The computer you're dialing in to does not respond to a network request.
Check your server type setting in the properties of the connection.
If this problem persists, check with your network administrator.

I know nothing about VPN's, so I'm speculating right now...but is it possible
that the innitial VPN request takes place on a port TCP port that ESSG
alows trafic on, but that the response from the VPN server comes back on a
port that is blocked by ESSG? (the ESSG box is running in server &
gateway mode.)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dean
