goto ftp.suse.com and change for update_for_7.1 directory and then to
kernel where you will find 2.2.19 for default (k_dflt-2.2.19) before
doing an rpm -Uhv you may want to have a look at it via mc (midnight
commander) just press enter on the rpm file and another enter on the
Contents.cpio have a look at the kernel config file which will be in the
/boot directory of teh Contents.cpio file. I am guite sure that it has
BIGMEM support enabled.

If happy you may install this on e-smith. if the directory structure of
the kernel and the SuSE kernel are not matching then just use rpm2cpio
or via mc do the transfer

kernels with version number less then 2.2.19 had some security problems
IIRC.

As a note SuSE does not have any shitty tools they are supreior compared
to any other. Thereis one central rc.config wher you can control the
whole system and yes YAST rocks
