I just setup a test server and wanted to jump in on this project with my
experiences if I may. I am using 5.1 alpha1 (fresh install no customizations
at all) and the latest Samba 2.2.2-6 RPMs from Charlie and Gordon's latest
e-smith-lib and e-smith-samba packages. My workstation is also a fresh
install of W2k. I cannot get a sucessful domain join at all the only message
I get is "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted". I have tried everything I could find in the the previous post
and in Darrell's How-to but I haven't seen this message anywhere. Has this
been addressed at any time? I can log on locally to the W2k machine and the
internet connection through the SME box is working fine (cable connection),
but when I browse the network sometimes the SME box shows and sometimes it
doesn't when it is there I can use an accout and password and I'm fine. Is
there something obvious I am missing?

I have setup e-smith 4.12 and Samba 2.2.1a on my company's network as a PDC
and it worked like a charm. Now it just sits there and I don't touch it at
all. So I know it will work and I had that going in about an hour. I have
beat this one for several hours already and haven't gotten anywhere. I have
looked at fragments read e-mails read Samba "documentation" and I just don't
see any reason it wouldn't work.

Let me know if anybody has any ideas and also I have this machine available
to beat on if anybody needs help testing anything
