Unfortunately we all have to remember that much of the value of a
configuration like e-smith relies on interoperating with the system
that is forced on everyone's desktop.   One of these days a service
pack that is required to fix some security issue is going to break
compatibility with samba as a side effect.  This has happened before
but the samba team has so far been able to respond quickly with
a matching version.   Has anyone considered what to do if the
next incompatibility introduced is impossible to reverse engineer
or contains patented technology that samba can't incorporate?
