Rob,
Ident's got nothing to do with hostnames at all. What an IRC server
usually does is sees your address in the connection, resolves that to
a hostname, and then resolves that back to an address. If any fail or
don't match, you appear with the address, not the hostname. All of
that's from the perspective of the IRC server.
