Not to disparage it in any way, but SME currently is a wrapper around RedHat 7.1. While it should in principle be possible to make it a wrapper around a different OS or Linux distribution, this would entail rewriting each and every e-smith module. The result would be not a port of SME to PPC, but an SME-like OS or distro that runs on PPC. If anybody were to seriously contemplate a PPC port, their best starting point would probably be Yellow Dog Linux 2.1, being probably the closest to RedHat 7.1 as you'll find on Linux/PPC. But even then you'd probably be in for a lot of rewriting of the e-smith modules and I'm not sure how friendly YDL's installer is to customization. Heck, the installer may not even be open source.
