took heed to all the talk about using real servers so...... Today's high tech scrounging was interesting. have an HP server case with a GA-586dx dual cpu( but only have one cpu for it< any extra 233 intel mmx chips surplus out there?>) motherboard in it and a slug of scsi drives all in these neat little drawers.
Now... time to load stuff... tried red hat 7.2 and got continuous apic error on cpu0 errors streaming on the screen... tried goggle.. totally confused but seems to be the 2.4 kernel related? is SME on an earlier kernel? because........ when I loaded 5.5 worked well! also told it to take 2 of the drives and do the raid..... decided to test the raid by pulling one of the drives and letting it run on one and write some stuff... then rebooted... the stuff went by on the screen so fast I could not read all of it but it appears it knew there was a problem... but something about not enough room to rebuild but running diminished ? now the problem is, and maybe this is something that needs to be addressed..... shouldn't there be something in the console when you check the status of the server that says... hey! you have a problem with your raid! and perhaps recommend a fix? ( this is by 6.0 recommend..) I believe these scsi drives are only one gig. thanks ed sharpe archivist for smecc What will the dumpsters of America, the dark corners of kind hearted folk hold for our experimentation tomorrow with SME? stay tuned same time same listserv. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Les Mikesell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "ed sharpe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Greg Baker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, July 10, 2002 6:17 AM Subject: Re: [e-smith-devinfo] Some wish-list ideas for version 6.0 > >From: "Greg Zartman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > > What would your explaination be to your boss?...
