yes, thanks gordon.

the catch comes in that diald will drop the conection after the length of
time specified
with long being only 20 minutes.
you can then increase the timeout but what length do you choose
and do you use force to make a reconnect on dropouts

i tried for a long time to understand the diald settings and failed and now
use dialmon to overrule diald. It seems like you should be able to devise a
set of values to suite a range of uses but i doubt anyone but the diald
author knows how :-)

Anyone is free to use dialmon but setting it up to work with sme while isn't
hard isn't trivial. While i charge for the latest ispconnection rpm it's
part of a suite of rpm that provides fairly good value, and if you ask
nicely i've been known to unbundle it for a nominal sum because diald really
got up my nose.
