well,

if I could I'd probably would...

I build myself a server from an embedded micro-mainboard (no heat, no noise,
less power consumption,...) for my home-environment. This board has only one
IDE-channel. Therefor I have the choice to attach either 2 discs or a disc
and a cdrom.

I tried installing using the bootnet.img. But somehow that did not work.
Somebody has experience installing via net (I have enough Linux-machines in
my local network that can be set up...)

That's Why I want to install using the disc and cdrom setup and afterwards switch
to the raid-setup...

And I want to stay on the IDE-setup, because that way I can use laptop-discs. Again
this will reduce noise, heat, footprint and power-consumption.

Any ideas?

thanks
Alexander

dual-disc-raid-server

It's a real pain using software RAID, but100% transparent using hardware
RAID, which is the way I decided to go. I used the MRS SubRAID from
Darrel Mays' company (see
http://myezserver.com/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=4393152.27473*uG0gt4&product=hardware),
but there are several other good options out there, some of which you
can find at Synetics site. (Why is it that these things seem to be sold
only by Canadians, eh?)

Darrell even added extra drive trays when I asked, which really helps if
you want to use the RAID as the basis for a backup rotation as well as
general failure protection.

I'd buy it again, and in fact I may for a server here at the house.
Recommended, if you're not allergic to the very reasonable cost.
