Umm, sorry, that was badly worded. tcpserver just sets environment variables and allows connections to another program. The called program (smtpfront-qmail in this discussion) can make use of those environment variables. So, tcpserver can be used (as we do) to determine which environment variables to set (and to what values) based on IP selection criteria and the called program determines what to do (if anything) with those variables.
